This is a collection of Facts that I have collected data on for the last few years.
1. Track bar is the most common reason you will have bad steering input, wonder, and death wobble. Also not getting to torque spec on the bolts.
2. EPA sets the psi level high on tires for more mpg. The tire brand sets them for if you're max towing, they also wear out the centers way faster and you get less traction. Set the tires to half what they recommend and go from there. Use common sense when towing. High psi will make the truck ride like crap!
3. Just because a boot is ripped means the joint is bad. See this all the time with shops.
4. If the Joint has lateral play it needs to be corrected. If it just moves when you grab the bar it is fine. Look at it like a bolt. Can't loosen a bolt with out a ratchet. Same concept, the bar acts like the ratchet and the joint is the bolt.
5. Impacts are a lazy mans tool. Great for removing bolts and getting the bolts threaded in quicker. But you CAN NOT rely on them to get to torque. The battery ones are the worst. I use one every day BUT use the torque wrench to ensure it is to spec....
6. No matter how much money you spend on a Ram truck, it will not drive like a Ferrari and a Ferrari will not tow either. So you need to find a happy medium there. I think they drive GREAT for being able to tow and daily drive.
7. NEVER USE OFFSET BALL JOINTS!
8. Adding more steering dampers (correct term) or stabilizers will do less than one good one that is developed for your truck platform.
9. If your truck has been to a few shops a few times and they can't find the issue. Please be patient while I try to help you (typically for free) , if they shop can't find the issue while looking at it. It will take me some time to diagnose it over a phone call and not have the truck here for me to inspect personally.
10. Negative offsets will make the truck drive horribly and wears out parts x1000 times faster. They also require load F tires and no side wall. So they will make the truck ride really bad. Plus they are famous for ejecting wheels.
11. Unless you tow heavy every day, you don't need Load F tires (12 ply). OEM spec is load E (10 ply).
12. NEVER EVER USE MOOG!!!!!! if you do just know you will be redoing them in 30k miles. The quality is not good anymore.
13. SKF wheel bearings are OEM. Pull the abs sensor out and add about 40 pumps of wheel bearing grease before you install it. Use anti seize during install too.
14. EMF makes the best ball joints. Highly recommend them.
More to come, if you have one to add please email it to me :)
